Daniel Radcliffe has said he would not rule out a cameo as Harry Potter in JK Rowling's forthcoming big screen return to witchcraft and wizardry, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Radcliffe told the Hollywood Reporter he could not imagine himself returning and had heard about the new film series from a reporter. Nevertheless, he would wait and see what Rowling comes up with for her debut screenplay before making a final decision.
"I don't think I'm going to be coming back", said Radcliffe. "We can't be doing these characters when we're 40, so there has to be a line drawn."
But he refused to rule out an appearance, "because I never know what Jo [Rowling] is going to write, [though] at the moment I'm in the same position that everyone else is in - waiting to hear what information is coming out because I don't know anything about these new films."
Radcliffe had previously said he and his co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson would probably not be returning to Hogwarts for Beasts, which is set 70 years prior to the arrival of Harry, Ron and Hermione at the magical school. Now the actor, currently promoting his role as the poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings, says he might just be in line to return if "time travel rears its head again", adding: "I'll be intrigued to see what she does."
Warner Bros, the studio behind the Potter films, announced it is working on a new series with Rowling last month. Fantastic Beasts' title is borrowed from the first-year textbook that Potter uses at Hogwarts in the novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Rowling published the "magizoology" compendium in 2001 to raise money for the charity Comic Relief; the films will feature the book's ostensible author, the swashbuckling adventurer Newt Scamander.
