Shane Meadows may direct a film documenting the return of the Stone Roses.
The director of This is England was filming at the press conference last week at which band members Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary "Mani" Mounfield and Alan "Reni" Wren announced that they would reform for three sold-out shows – the band's first in 15 years – to be held in Manchester's Heaton Park next summer.
Mark Herbert, Meadows's long-term producer at Warp Films – the company behind Meadows's Dead Man's Shoes and Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee - took to Twitter to respond to the rumours.
"We filmed the press conference last week but until we finish post on [Meadows TV spin-off] This is England 88 in Dec nothing will be finalised," he said. "We just jumped at chance to film the announcement. Exciting tho!"
The band have yet to comment on any plans to film the reunion.
If the film goes ahead it will be the director's second consecutive feature about touring musicians. Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee, a fictional account of real-life rapper Scor-zay-zee's attempt to make it in the music business, co-starred Meadows regular Paddy Considine and featured an appearance from Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys.
Tickets for two of the Heaton Park shows, which will take place between 29 June and 1 July, sold out within 14 minutes of going on sale last week, prompting the addition of the third date, which has also sold out. The band will embark on a world tour after the gigs, which will see a total of 220,000 fans head to Manchester.
