Review: Kamikaze Girls

Philip French: Light in tone this film is a winsome, whimsical tale of a friendship between two Japanese teenagers

Kamikaze Girls (102 mins, 12A)
Directed by Tetsuya Nakashima; starring Kyoko Fukada, Anna Tsuchiya

Light in tone Kamikaze Girls is a winsome, whimsical tale of a friendship between two Japanese teenagers, one obsessed with clothes and dressing in 18th-century French costume because she fantasises about living in Marie Antoinette's Versailles, the other a butch biker. There are numerous freeze frames and bits of animation and it's a cult picture in Japan.
