McKellen stars in Guillemots' video

The star of King Lear has taken on a very different role

His turn as King Lear last year was hailed as the performance of a lifetime, but now the actor Ian McKellen has taken on a very different role: starring in the video for the Guillemots' next single, Falling Out of Reach, which is released next month. McKellen, who first heard the band when a young relative took him along to a gig, plays a bored office worker who insists on carrying his office chair everywhere he goes. "I heard about this video for the new song, which I really like," says McKellen, whose last appearance in a music video was as a vampire in the Pet Shop Boys' Heart in 1988. "I happened to have nothing better to do, so I dropped in."
