What are your memories of nativity plays? | Open thread

Nativity plays have been changing with the times. Tell us if they should include aliens and lobsters or stick with tradition

Nativity play season is under way, and 2,000 parents on the Netmums website have been discussing the ways in which the tradition has changed. These days, apparently, rather than just featuring Mary, Joseph, an innkeeper, assorted donkeys, wise men and angels, some nativity plays have branched out to include aliens, lobsters, footballers and Elvis – an unusually interesting night at the inn.

What are your memories of appearing in a nativity play, or going to see your children in one? Did you ever land a plum role, or were you forever relegated to the donkey’s back legs? Did you remember your lines, or fluff them completely? And what was the dream role you never landed?
