Waterson: Carthy, Holy Heathens and the Old Green Man

Wintry folk that shines the spotlight on Britain's pagan past

(Topic) £11.99

Not sure if this will be replacing Christmas With Frank and Bing in my house over Yuletide, but it's refreshingly original none the less. These sparse, traditional festive folk songs evoke frosty mornings and wintry fields, reconnecting the listener to ancient pagan rituals rather than getting plastered in front of Only Fools and Horses repeats. The performances from Norma Waterson, Eliza Carthy and Tim van Eyken are exemplary, as you'd expect, but things are at their most affecting when Martin Carthy takes a solo turn in the spotlight.
