ITV has confirmed Piers Morgan will join Good Morning Britain, co-presenting the breakfast show with Susanna Reid three days a week.
The former Daily Mirror editor has already been a familiar face on the show, which replaced the short-lived Daybreak last year.
Morgan said: “I am very excited at the prospect of waking up at 3am every morning, and even more excited by the thought of how annoying Susanna is going to find me after a few months.
“Good Morning Britain is a great show with a terrific team on and off screen. I’m looking forward to it enormously.”
Morgan has already had an impact, although not always of the positive variety, after he was criticised by media regulator Ofcom for laughing as a guest swore on air.
ITV director of daytime, Helen Warner, said: “We loved having Piers on the show earlier this year, so we’re delighted that he’s joining us permanently. He is an excellent interviewer and a great broadcaster, who fits in brilliantly with GMB’s family of presenters.”
Ben Shephard, one of the show’s original lineup of presenters, will co-host the show the other two days of the week when Morgan joins next month.
ITV Studios managing director of daytime, Emma Gormley, added: “We’re proud of the strong show we’ve been building over the last 18 months and that audience figures are up some seven per cent year-on-year.
“We look forward to continuing that growth with Piers as part of the team.”
