Travel Warning WARNING: Many governments advise against all travel to Syria. Despite the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, the situation remains volatile and Idlib province remains a stronghold of the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda. Terrorist attacks, kidnapping and fighting between rival armies are common. Israeli airstrikes and missile attacks can occur anywhere in the country, with airports being a frequent target. Consular services are generally not available. Since the outbreak of the war in Israel in October 2023, there has been increased artillery exchange at the Syrian border with Israel.
